I was listening to the radio the other day...Wait, I think I need to clarify things for my younger readers: Kids, you know the thing located in the middle of the dashboard of your parents vehicle that has all those dials and knobs? That thing is called a "RADIO," and sometimes an adult will listen to what is being broadcast and promoted by a "Disk Jockey,"and not pre-programmed into an I-Pod.
Anyway, I was listening to the radio the other day and I heard a great song from a band called, Smash Mouth. The song is entitled "Walking on the Sun." I found the tune catchy and memorable with the band's enticing lyrics against drugs and social cliques. My brain willingly played "Walking on the Sun" over and over in my mind after hearing it only once.
While rehearsing the song's chorus in my head, "And if you follow, there maybe a tomorrow. But if the offer is shun, you might as well be walkin' on the sun," I came to an epiphany; WE DO NOT WANT TO WALK ON THE SUN!
From time to time, during my dark and depressing days, I have to be reminded of certain "things." It may have to do with my "old age" because I still listen to the radio, and God forbid, I still utilize a pen and notebook paper to write as opposed to a convenient laptop computer. Point being; I have to be clubbed over the head periodically to regain my focus. Sorry, I didn't mean to fragment into another one of my passionate topics, so I will continue:
Listening to Smash Mouth's song brought me to this realization; "No, we do not want to walk on the sun or we might get burned" (quite literally). After many (and I do mean many) years of trial and error, I have discovered in my Christian walk, we want to walk towards the Son, Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We absolutely cannot walk on Him, and if we turn our backs to him, guess what? We experience total darkness once we turn away from His Majesty.
I came across a quote the other day that encompasses everything I have learned and sums up exactly what I am writing about today: Turn your face to the sun, and the shadows fall behind you." ---Maori Proverb

Focus your energies towards The Son, and all of your darkness (bad habits and negative behaviors) will begin to fall away.
